An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed - Resolution with screenshots

Situation: when attempting to join a windows 7 to domain controller running windows 2012 R2, the client receives this message: An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed

Troubleshooting: 1. the DNS were setup domain controller as primary DNS and the router as secondary DNS.

2. The WINS is enabled.

3. You can ping hostname and domain name.

Resolution: add DNS suffix to the client and remove the router DNS as secondary DNS.
