“A Remote Desktop Services deployment does not exist in the server pool…”

Situation: the client just installs Remote desktop server in his Windows 2016 server. When he goes to Server Manager>Remote Desktop Services, he gets this message: “A Remote Desktop Services deployment does not exist in the server pool…”

Resolution:

  1. Go to Add Roles and Features.

2. Follow the Add Roles and Features Wizard. Then check Remote Desktop Services installations.

3. Check Quick Start or Standard deployment if you want to deploy for multiple servers.

4. Check Session-based desktop deployment.

5. Make sure the server is selected and click on Next.

6. Check Restart the deployment server automatically if required, and then click on Deploy. 

7. If all of them are Succussed, clock Close to complete the deployment.

 

 

 

 

Can’t install SQL 2014 Express because of long password

Situation: the client is trying to install Relius Administration 2018 Component with SQL 2014 Express. It completed the installation, but it doesn’t install SQL 2014 Express.

The SQL 2014 Express limits password 10 characters. The company password policy requires 12 characters. Temporary disable password policy or change it to 10 characters fix the problem. Note: you need to run gpupdate /force or restart each workstation.

 

SQL Backup failed with Event ID 18204

Situation: The client us running SQL 2008 R2 and failed to use SQL Backup. The event view shows this message:

BackupDiskFile::CreateMedia: Backup device ‘\\backupnas\backups\SQLServer03.bak\SQLDATA\SQL_Backup\distribution_backup_201810212245.bak’ failed to create. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.).

Troubleshooting: this is permission issue. Please make sure the computer login account has full permissions to access \\backupnas\backups\SQLServer03.bak\SQLDATA. For a test, you can assign full permissions to everyone.

 

Outlook keeps popup for the password after enabling MFA

Situation: The Outlook keeps popup for the password after enabling the MFA. Enter correct domain password doesn’t work.

Here are some other suggestions:

•  Run the Microsoft Support And Recovery Assistant For Office 365. All IT support personnel should have this page bookmarked.

•  Click Cancel on the password prompt. Outlook might immediately connect normally. If Outlook says “Need password” at the bottom, click on those words. For at least one client, Outlook then immediately switched to “Connected” and hasn’t prompted again since then.

•  Open Control Panel / Credential Manager and remove all passwords related to Office or Office 365.

•  Create a new mail profile.

•  Ping outlook.office365.com. One Reddit contributor thought the password prompts came up when pings fluctuated up to 400-500ms.

•  Add some registry values to control Autodiscover, per this Microsoft support article.

•  Install the most recent updates for the Office programs (in an Office program, click on File / Office Account / Office Updates).

•  Change the password on the mailbox.

•  Disable the Microsoft Account Sign-In Assistant service, if it’s running.

•  Do a Quick Repair of the Office programs.

 

High CPU Usage because Azure AD Connect Health Sync Monitor

Situation:  the client has Azure AD Connect 1.1.819.0  installed on a server running windows 2012 R2 to sync their  on-premise domain with Office 365. recently, they are noticing the Azure AD Connect Health Sync Monitoring Service is always running high CPU usage.  

Troubleshooting; 1.   If you have installed KB4054566 is .NET 4.7.2, you may try to uninstall it.

2. The temporary solution is disable Azure AD Connect Health Sync Monitor  service.

3. The better solution is upgrade Azure AD Connect 1.1.819.0 to latest version.

 

Email app doesn’t accept domain credentials

Situation: After enabling MFA, some users have a problem to access email from Android phone or your home computer. Whenever you enter the domain password, it keeps popup for the password.

2. If the user is using Android phone, please try Microsoft Outlook app. Or download or install Google Authentication app.

3. For administrator, you can disable and re-enable MFA.

Reconnect at sign in doesn’t work

Situation: The client has a windows 2012 R2 server. They check Reconnect at sign in mapping a network drive. However, it doesn’t work. Whenever restarting the server, mapping drive shows red X. They need to re-map it.

Troubleshooting: 1. Disable Fast Logon Optimization on the client. To do so, please go to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon

2. Enable SilentForcedAutoReconnect

a. Click Start, click Run, type REGEDIT, and then click OK.

b. Locate and click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\NetCache

c. Click Edit, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

d. Type SilentForcedAutoReconnect , and then press ENTER to name the value.

e. Double-click SilentForcedAutoReconnect .

f. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

3. Create a mapping log script.

you could reset the mapped drive with the following command in an elevated command windows.

net use Z: \\server\folder /persistent:yes

Keep locking the user account after changing the password

Situation: After the client forced everyone changing their password, one of user accounts keeps locking.

Troubleshooting: we find they use the account on Canon One Touch feature. Whenever people scan using One Touch, it doesn’t scan and eventually locks the account. Changing the password in Canon printer fixes the problem.
