Troubleshooting Windows 10 Version 2004 problems

Recently, Microsoft release a new windows Update, version 2004. This update may take a long time to install and restart. We do see some users have a problem after restart the computer. The symptoms are black screen for remote user; you can’t see any applications/icons after login and restart takes a long time to come back; System runs slow or freezes. Here are more reported issues:

  1. Difficulty connecting to more than one Bluetooth device.
  2. Intel and Microsoft have found compatibility issues with Windows 10 2004. Affected PCs include those with a Thunderbolt port and with Kernel DMA Protection enabled and Windows Hypervisor Platform disabled. Microsoft has provided instructions for how to check the status of each feature.
  3. Microsoft’s own Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3 could be seeing errors and unexpected shutdowns after installing Windows 2004 due to an issue with the Always On, Always Connected feature. 
  4. Some Games may have problem too.
  5. Outlook runs slow.
  6. Quickbooks doesn’t work.
  7. Display goes black.
  8. Lost mapped network drives with “The specified network name is no longer available” message. You have to disconnect and re-map the drive.

This new version of windows is a whole new OS. Installation, restart and login may take a while. These are our suggestions.

  1. Don’t install it until all problems fixed.
  2. If you do want to install the update after business hours over night.
  3. This new windows update may take over long time to install, restart. It may take over night. So be patient.
  4. After the restart, the first time login may take over 10 minutes or even longer. The screen may be black for the remote user. Be patient.  Don’t call someone to restart the computer at lease you wait for one hour.
  5. If the logon black screen stays more than one hour, please contact us.
  6. If the computer runs slow or missing some icons after you login, please restart the computer one more time. Perhaps couple time.
  7. Windows 10 version 2004 does not support server 2016 failover clusters

    • Slow Windows restating process
    • Slow response on MS applications
    • Office 365 Outlook disables OncOutlook sync DLL or CRM add-in doesn’t work

    • Especially for Remote Desktop, it runs slow, black screen.
