Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004010F)

The operation failed. An object could not be found

Case 1: The client is running Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2003. The user keep getting this error: "Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004010F): 'The operation failed. An object could not be found.'"

Resolution: In Exchange Management Console, expand Server Configuration, and then click Mailbox. In the Database Management window, right-click Properties on the mailbox store. Click the Client Settings tab, click Browse, and then click the appropriate offline address book. Click OK two times.

Case 2: The user can send and receive email. However send\receive status shows the error.

Resolution: The public folder is dismounted. To fix it, open Exchange Management Console, expand Server Configuration, make sure all mailbox storages are mounted.

Case 3: The client has this issue with Exchange 2003.

Resolution: In Exchange System Manager, expand the Recipients container. Click the Offline Address Lists container. In the right side of the pane, right-click the offline address list object, and then click Properties. On the General tab, verify that a valid address list is populated under Address lists. If a valid address list is not populated under Address lists, you must add one.

Note The default address is the global address list. Click OK. Right-click the offline address list object again, and then click Set as New Default if the offline address list object is not set. If you made any changes, right-click the offline address list object again, and then click Rebuild.

Case 4: Here are another solution from Microsoft:

Use this method to resolve this problem when you view Properties in the Offline address list setting in Exchange System Manager.

Exchange Server 2003

  1. In Exchange System Manager, click Properties for the mailbox store, and then verify that the offline address list is populated with a valid offline address list object in Offline address list on the General tab.

Note If the offline address list is not populated with a valid offline address list object, click Browse to select a valid offline address list object.
  2. Send an e-mail message from Outlook 2003.

Note In Outlook 2003, you may have to log off and log on again for a valid test.

Case 5: If you are seeing this error on an Exchange 2007 server and your OAB is generated by an Exchange 2007 server, please make sure of the following:

1. Make sure that you have added the replicas of OAB to the Exchange 2007 server
2. Make sure public folder replication is working.
3. Make sure the OAB is public folder enabled and you have OAB Version 2, OAB Version 3 and OAB Version 4 checked off so your legacy clients can download the OAB files from the public folder store.
4. Make sure that if you are using an Outlook 2007 client, your OAB is Web Distribution enabled and the OAB files have been replicated over to the Client Access Server. For more information on this process please see this blog:

5. If you are removing your last Exchange 2003 server from the org, please make sure that you follow our documentation on this process.

Case 6: You may want to try changing the mail profile out of cached mode to alleviate the problem. You may also want to try doing a rebuild from Exchange Manager. Go to Recipients -> Offline addresses -> Default offline address list. Right click and then rebuild.

Case 7:

When you try to download the offline address book (OAB) in Microsoft Outlook from Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or from Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, you receive error 8004010F.
