I
just installed Tax Cut on my Vista Ultimate and had no problems. It
connected
to the internet and downloaded and installed some updated files.
I
don't have all my tax data yet so I haven't started a return yet but I
don't
expect any problems.

You
can sometimes get the uninstall to work by reinstalling the program and
then
uninstalling it. I have noticed in Vista that if I
use the
compatibility
wizard that most of the time I am unable to uninstall the
program.
If you used that, don't on the reinstall. I have had several
uninstall
that way. Good luck. I know in XP there was an uninstall
program
available
to assist with this type of situation, but don't remember what it
was
or if it would work with Vista. I'll
check my old email and see if I
can
find it if the above doesn't work.

But
they are not very bright ... they like vista, how could they be? lol
with
this scenario your machine gives you more choices later on

at the same time you have the maximum compatibility with 32 bit.
so
64 bit hardware
32

A
recommendation for either version of Vista, be it Home or Ultimate, 32 or
64
bit, will be impossible if you do not describe your usage scenario.
Explain
what you try to do. Maybe XP is what you should stick with for now,
esp.
if this is a production machine.

That

that
running Home Premium via virtualisation is not allowed but is allowed
on
Ultimate.
Any

You
can recommend Compatibility Mode (Right click exe file, properties,
Compatibility).
You can run it as it would in Windows XP SP2.
Let
us know what programs, and we may be able to find a workaround.

A
service patch will not cure his problem - it is the responsibility of the
application
provider to provide Vista capable drivers.
If
he had run Winnows Upgrade Advisor on his old XP computer it would have
alerted
him to any difficulties he may experience going to Vista even though
he
was not upgrading XP..
Just
curious - what happened to the XP computer?

Well
if a program does not work, it is down to the software developers to
create
the patch, this has nothing to do with Microsoft.
What
programs is he having a problem with? There may be a simple
workaround.

Any
user account, domain or not, will get a profile created when they logon
the
first time; there is no need to add the domain user account to the local
Administrators
group and I suggest this is not really a good idea.
SBS
does some interesting things with respect to client computers, joining
the
SBS Domain etc.. I suggest looking in the
microsoft.public.windows.servers.sbs
newsgroup, the KB article suggested by
Kerry
Brown (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=926505) and the SBS blog at
http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2007/02/01/update-for-the-windows-sbs-client-deployment-tools-to-support-windows-vista-delayed.aspx
for
any issues with Vista and SBS.

Here's
a link on how to setup a Vista computer on a SBS 2003 domain.
Microsoft
is working on a patch for SBS 2003 so the manual methods aren't
needed
but in the meantime here's the procedure.

Right
click Computer, Pick Manage, Click Continue on the UAC prompt, expand
Local
Users and Groups, click on Groups, double click on Administrators,
click
on Add, type the first couple of letters of the domain user name,
click
on Check Names, pick the right user from the list and click on OK.
This
will add the domain user to the local admin group.

Use
this to fix (there are many other ways but it's fast and easy):
Do
this:
http://www.windows-now.com/blogs/kmkenney/archive/2006/11/25/fix-windows-vista-help-and-support.aspx
If
you have been getting the dreaded "Internet Explorer cannot download /
from
help" error message when attempting to open Help and Support in
Windows
Vista,
try this fix. It re-associates the .xml file type with its default
settings.
Once you've merged this into the registry, re-launch Help and
Support
and it should work.
You
can download the fix at
http://www.chris123nt.com/guides/RTM_Fixes/Fix_Help_and_Support.zip.
Good
luck,
CH

I
think it naturally reflects personal experience each of them had with
Vista.
Personally, I see quite a few things that are wrong in Vista RTM. But
at
the same time I see much more things that are so cool. So my personal sum

Only
problem is that I have to launch a 32-bit browser when I visit a

I
went to the ATI site and got the latest Vista driver for my card
and
installed it. Rebooted the PC. All looks OK, graphics card is
OK
in
Device Manager, and Windows says I have the latest version when
I
try and update the driver.
I
also used the Flash uninstall utility to uninstall Flash, then reinstalled
it.
Same
problem.
I
then tried the MS KB site. Same problem-
http://www.svrops.com/svrops/articles/kb2.htm
Ironically,
I seem to be having more problems on MS web sites than any place else.
The
driver I installed is a "BETA Driver", so maybe I will have to
wait a while for another
version.

The
exact build of IE7 I have on XP SP2... is this: (see screenshot)
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/7010/sshot1oq8.jpg
This
is the latest final version of IE7, so I guess the build difference
is
because the other one is on vista. This is normal...
From
what I understand its not IE7 fault or flashes fault since I
have
run vista with flash on 3 computers with no such problems.
I
am sure it has something to do with a driver or something specific on
your
system.

international

This

Acronis
is a good option, but my guess with Microsoft is to get you to use
the
Windows One Care backup utility (in the suite). I actually like how
WOC
works
with XP/Vista (but, of course, it's Microsoft working with Microsoft),
but
the backup utility in WOC still has the funcionality you require.
($49.00/year
for up to 3 computers, along with windows Defender, etc.).

Hello
Chadd,
I think you may find some competition between Best Buy and Circuit City
on
both the time and the price you can pick it up.. Circuit City is allowing
you
to
purchase
Vista now, and pick it up, or, have it installed and pick it up on
the
30th
for
the Ultimate at: $ 229.00 (retail $ 259.00).. So some competition will
be
taking
place
on the systems..

I can't do mail order, they won't accept a non-US credit card.
If
you're shipping locally to a US location, just use paypal or one of its
variants
to "launder" your foreign credit card into US funds. :o)
If
that doesn't work, you can buy Visa and Mastercard "debit" cards
at
some
stores. They come in some minimum denomination but you can add more
money
to the account when you buy the card or can recharge it later at
approved
stores. They're used just like a credit card and can be used for
online
orders but be careful because they're debit cards, not credit
cards.
If something isn't as advertised, you don't have the same consumer
protections
as with a credit card. The same is true of paypal.
I'm
pretty sure Circuit City carries them. It seems likely that stores
like
Target and Wal-mart would have them, too. I'm not sure but I think
you
have to provide an address to activate them, and for online orders
this
probably has to match your local shipping address.

CompUSA,
Best Buy, Circuit City, and Staples. They will all be about the
same
for pricing and are nationwide electronics and software stores.
Others
will
make additional suggestions. I prefer CompUSA.

Isn't
that kind of like asking "where is the best restaurant in the
U.S."?
If
you visit New York, would you travel to Texas if that is where the best
store
is.
How
about narrowing your area down a bit. After all. the U.S. is so tiny to
begin
with.

Ok,
don't panic.
Start
your laptop and press F8 during boot in order to access boot options.
Select

That

Re: WIndows Vista BSODs
Date:

The
2 BSODs I have received have nothing to do with booting. Both happened
days
after booting. I am guessing that the first one MAY be the USB hub
problem
and installed the patch for that. The second, again I am guessing,
happened
when opening a Word document, so it may be printer driver related,
so
I let Vista search and install it for me. Now comes the waiting game to
see
if what I have done fixes what I ran into. In addition, I stopped Vista
for
auto-rebooting after a BSOD, hoping more information might be available.
Since
I can only find 3 KB articles based on the term BSOD - which it
prominently
says at the top of the message WIndows gives me, there is little
information
to go on. The hex codes found a dearth of responses - back to
the
three I found with BSOD.
It
is almost as if MS does not want to acknowledge that there are BSODs,
IMHO.
And
if someone knows ways to get more "inside info" on BSODs in
VIsta,
please
post where.

Alan--
I'm
sorry. I see you were quoting Bill Hobson--that was the original
post.
I
should have addressed questions on the list to him but for you--but if you
get
a BSOD and can't boot or have serious Vista problems, what I did post
might
help you. The BSOD is often associated with a problem in booting, but
does
not have to be. It has an error with a number that isn't particularly
appreciated
by a reaonable knowledge of the English language. Often that
error
can be searched at http://support.microsoft.com but I know several of
them
that may apply to many different applications in a variety of
circumstances
that can come up on an MSKB search. You can configure XP or
Vista
to show the BSOD insetead of attempting to reboot or go to the
Advanced
Options screen when one happens.
If
you want to make sure your possible BSOD stop stays on the screen for
reading,
you can:
Windows
Key +Pause Break>Under Startup and Recovery>Settings Button>take
check
out of automatic restart. That way you get a good look at the error on
the
BSOD which MSFT calls a "stop error."
BTW--I
have no idea what the poster, Mr. Hobson was referring to when he
talked
about a BSOD list or three BSODs acknowledge by MSFT. He never
elaborated
on where he came up with this unique and interesting concept.
The
BSOD was birthed in Windows 3.1 in April 1992 when 2 million copies sold
in
the first 2 months replete with their BSODs and they have proudly carried
on
the tradition, enabling more BSODs than ever to flourish during XP and
Vista.
I think the Wagner Edstrom and McCann Ericson motto for Vista is
"The
Wow Starts Now. More BSODs than ever in Vista and we again are
forcing
OEM
Named partners not to ship ways to recover from them by denying you a
Vista
DVD when you pay $1000-4000 of your hard earned money for a computer
with
pre-loaded Visduh on it."
What
surprises me greatly is that MSN Live has not sought to use BSODs as
yet
another advertising opportunity in their massive efforts to
"catcup"
with
the bad boys from Google. For example--why not have a beer or Kevin
Federline
ad on a BSOD to lighten things up and accumulate more Redmond
revenue?
http://www.bbspot.com/News/2002/10/bsod_ads.html
Also
if you keep your eyes peeled, you can encounter BSODs on the streeet

LOL--as
they ride the titanic, Irv "Scooter" Libby's $100 million defense
team
filed motions this morning that indicate Darth Vader Cheney is chicken
to
take the stand and may not be hauling his fat ass into the courtroom to
wrestle
with his many lies in order to get hundreds of thousands dead in
Iraq
and nearly 4000 Americans into Dover Coffins. That's called the
Ultimate
Bush-Cheney Blue Screen of Death. The underlying issue in the
trial
is "how crazy is the Harvard Law Grad who was Cheney's chief of
staff"
who
was so devoted to propping up the Iraq lies that he stupidly made up
scores
of false accounts before a Grand Jury. When you get down to it, the
Bush
administration lends a new dimension to the words "quitissentially
stupid."
Once
again the old adage, the chickens who pushed and are pushing (they want
no

children,
grandparents, sisters, brothers, mothers and fathers to death in
Iraq
are afraid to come into the courtroom as one of their bretherin is
