I have no idea what to do, I just got a new HP laptop last spring, and

already problems arise. In Internet Explorer, new toolbars began showing up

from websites I've never visited, my homepage changed, links always take me

to http://safetysettings.com/v/, and a yellow "yield" alert sign is blinking

in my system tray that isn't the microsoft/windows one. Finally, a pop-up

help me, defender tried to block it, failed, then HP doesn't even recognize

What model scanner do you have?

Built-in where? How? A driver is a piece of software that runs in the

operating system. It can *not* be built into a hardware device.

That's *highly* unlikely. I think Brother just gave you bad info.

Almost certainly, the only possible solution is to get the needed

driver from Brother. Check their web site--you need the appropriate

driver for the combination of Vista and your model scanner.

But be aware that such a driver may not exist. One of the potential

problems with going to a new operating system is that the

manufacturers of all your devices may not provide drivers for them,

particularly if they are older models.

Also note that sometimes drivers don't exist when the operating system

first comes out, but they are developed and released later. However in

this situation, enough time has gone by since the release of Vista

that if they were going to provide the driver, they probably would

have already.

Is this a network printer or is it attached directly to the computer you

are using? If the latter, check the spooler settings and assure that it

is set to spool print documents and to print immediately rather than

print directly to the printer. Printing directly to the printer will

cause printing to be faster but it effectively turns off multi-tasking

and nothing else is done until printing is completed.

Is this a USB or LPT printer... or rather, how do you have it connected to

your PC? If it's USB, are the ports on the back or the front of the PC or

if on a hub, powered or unpowered?

First, HP don't seem to list the F300, they have F310 to F390 but not F300.

The full driver package is available from the HP website at:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093?

Or you can order a CD instead of downloading.

Your post is a little difficult to interpret:

1. You cannot use Fax and Scan to send Faxes from your all in one regardless

of what type connection to the outside world it has. Fax and Scan only

works with standard, analog Fax modems.

2. A standard, analog Fax modem only knows about standard telephone lines.

If your VoIP gadget has an RJ11 jack on it that you can connect a standard

telephone to, you might be able to use this with a Fax modem. I say

"might" because many VoIP services can detect and BLOCK Fax modem traffic

until you pay for Fax capability.

But that's internal to the printer.... nothing to do with the connection

Did you try something simple like...... changing the cable? Changing the

Each to his/her own I guess. There's no accounting for taste.

How about adding the HP4 Laser to one of the other computers. I personally

wouldn't even consider Win9x as a Server platform, no NTFS, no support for

large files.... etc etc... oh and the final REAL decider... NO SECURITY!!!!!

This is the Newsgroup for issues with Vista and Printers.... you appear to

The other issue you appear to be having is with IE7... HP has an update for

the HP Director software which has a known issue with IE7.

Sure. I don't have enormous experience with many brands and models,

but I can report that my Canon Lide60works just fine under Vista, and

I'm very happy with it.

I run Vista Ultimate, not Home Premium, but there's no reason why that

should make any difference.

I love the way HP are blaming it on the driver that THEY WROTE and provided

Your printer, as you must have read on the HP website is not really

compatible with Vista, it will print, but that's about all.
