I'm not telling you that you shouldn't use a front-end server, just that ISA

is far better suited for the DMZ, and since you have just one back-end

server, a front-end server doesn't offer you much utility.

If you have done the 2007 schema updates, you wont be able to install

a fresh 2003 org. You can only install additional 2003 servers into an

2003 exch org that eixsted prior to running the 2007 schema updates.

You have run out of space on your disk. This is why you can't mount. Whether

you've corrupted the databases or not is another question, easily answered

by running 'eseutul /mh' against them.

You can probably open four MMCs and run mailbox moves on all of them, if

you're careful to keep things separate and can manage them all, and you'll

probably see nearly four times the throughput. How big is the mailbox

store? If it's as huge as your numbers suggest (770GB?!) then you ought to

be sure that you have enough servers and mailbox stores. That's a awful lot

of data to back up in one night.

Hi,

Is it just OWA you're having the issue with?

OWA searching for users in the address book works differently.

To fix your OWA issues (if it is indeed just OWA that has the issue here,

confirm)

1. Ensure the students and the teachers are in seperate OU's

2. Fire up ADSIEdit and look for the MSExchQueryBaseDN, you need to set this

to be the OU that the users reside in.

So for Teachers, set it to their home OU, and for students to their

respective OU.

What this attribute does is only allow OWA to search for mail enabled

objects in the OU that is referenced for the user that is logged in when

MSExchQueryBaseDN is set.

Now let me know if you have GAL issues when using Outlook. If you do reply

back and also give me your security settings you've applied to the GALs you

have so far created.

All that means is that you're the only one that noticed the problem

and brought it to their attention.

>As

Once you verify that the DNS query's returning the corrct set of MX

and A records, engage MS PSS and report the problem.

I can tell you that I have this happen pretty regularly (but not

often) on non-Windows machines. It's not peculiar to Exchange. Of

course those machines report the results of the DNS queries in the

SMTP logs so finding the problem is a lot easier. :-)

>What i don't get is why Exchange isn't even attempting to contact the lower

>cost address even after the "bad" address is failing.

What you don't know is the result of the DNS query. You're assuming

that the server got both MX records in the answer and that may not be

the case. Verify that bit of information before spending a lot of time

looking for the problem elsewhere.

It does sound like a RUS problem. Is it pointing to a valid DC and Exchange

server? Try restarting the System Attendant service.

Also, put "troubleshooting RUS" into google and you'll get a ton of hits,

most notably the MS team blog series on this problem.
