How to create a site in SharePoint

1. Open a SharePoint site to which you have site member or owner permissions. This will be the parent site to the site you create.
2. On the Site Actions menu, click Create.
3. Under Web Pages, click Sites and Workspaces.
If you do not see the Sites and Workspaces link, check with the site owner of the parent site to make sure you have a permission level that allows you to create a new site.
4. On the New SharePoint Site page, type a name for your site in the Title box.
The title appears in all links that point to your site.
5. In the Description box, you can add information about your site.
6. In the URL name box, provide a descriptive and easily remembered name for the final part of the URL for your site (for example, Northwest).
The first part of the URL is automatically provided.
7. Under Select a template, click the template you want to use for your site.
When you click the template name, a picture and description of that template appears under Template Selection.
8. Under User Permissions, click a permissions option.
9. In the Navigation area, specify the way you want links to this site to appear in the parent site.
10. In the Navigation Inheritance area, specify whether you want the same top tabs as for the parent site, or if you want to make new top tabs for this site.
11. Click Create.
12. If you selected Use unique permissions, the Set Up Groups for this Site page appears.
You can set up permissions for one of the three levels of access: Visitors, Members, or Owners.
o Enter all of the user names in any of the permissions groups, and then click OK.
