Single IP address from NLB Cluster stops responding

Postby guest » Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:13 pm

I have setup a Microsoft NLB IIS cluster (windows server 2008 with IIS 7) on identical servers (hardware and software is idnetical) with multiple static IP addresses added to the cluster.

All sites were working fine for over a month until the cluster node with priority 1 decided to stop answering requests to a single IP (and always the same IP).

The IP was removed from the cluster and added again. Same behaviour.

It was also removed from the IP Stack of the Nic card and added again. Same behaviour.

It is always the same IP that stops responding after about 10 minutes.

I have been unable to find any information on why this would happen and how to troubleshoot it.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

in an NLB setup there is no Heartbeat or crossover cable!!

NLB = 2 servers with 2 nic's that shares 1 nic on a shared IP so NO Crossover cable This adapter is normaly connected to the LAN. And this shared NLB adress should be in the DNS !

so the client can access this shared IP

And in a cluster you have 1 nic = lan / 1 nic for heardbeat and yes this can be a crossover cable in 2 nodes only but NLB and fialover clustering is not the same and can't be mixed
