We are running windows 2012 R2 as file server. The server also has Symantec backup 15 to backup files. The keeps log these events:

* Source: VSS

* Event Log: Application

* Type: Warning Event

* Event ID: 40961

* ASR Warning: Failed to collect disk information for ASR Backup.

Reason: Unable to obtain disk information for device 1 (Win32 error code 0x45d).

* Event Time: 18 May 2015 04:21:05 PM

* Source: disk

* Event Log: System

* Type: Warning Event

* Event ID: 153

* The IO operation at logical block address 0x1cb267c7 for Disk 1 (PDO name: \Device\00000042) was retried.

Before we start, I would like to confirm the following information with you.

1. Since you use the Symantec backup to backup files, could you please use Windows Backup to check if it is still fails? If you can backup by Windows Backup, this issue may be related to the Symantec, I suggest you contact Symantec for further supporting.

Meanwhile, after doing some research, please try to use the command link chkdsk /r to check the disk 1 in your server.

It is disk issue. After we formatted the disk, we can run the Backup exec and no more errors.
