Net view: Service has not been started

Postby blin » Sun Sep 10, 2017 11:22 am

Situation: The client has windows 2012 R2 DC. The domain workstations can see the Network icon under my computer, but can't browse it. Also net view command displays: The service has not been started.

Troubleshooting: 1. Make sure these services are started: Computer Browser, Workstation, Remote Connection Management.
2. First thing you should try eliminating Winsock corruption. To do that,
follow these steps:

1. Open Network Connection

2. Right click on LAN and choose Properties

3. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

4. Click Uninstall

5. Click Start / Run, type regedit

6. Delete the following registry keys:

a.. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock

b.. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

7. Restart the computer

8. Open Network Connections

9. Right click LAN connection and choose Properties

10. Click Install, then Protocol and click Add

11. Click I have Disk and type C:\WINDOWS\inf

12. On the list choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click OK

13. Restart your computer

After this take a look, if you have all protocols and services installed.
Open Network Connection, right click on LAN and choose Properties. You must
have:

a.. File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks
b.. Client for Microsoft Networks
c.. QoS Packet Scheduler
d.. Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Try removing and reinstalling the first two ones (File and Printer sharing
for Microsoft Networks, Client for Microsoft Networks).

If this does not help, please provide us with more information, like:

.. Error you receive when you try to connect to one of the computers
via IP or name

.. Error you receive when you run "net view" command

.. Can you see this machine, when you run "net view" from a working
machine?

Type "netsh winsock reset catalog" into the command window.
Reboot.
