VMM error 2916 when doing P2V

Postby fenton » Tue May 19, 2009 7:58 am

Error (2916)
VMM is unable to complete request. The connection to the agent
hostserver.domain.local was lost. (The I/O operation has been aborted because
of either a thread exit or an application request (0x800703E3)). Progess 59%
complete. How do we troubleshoot this?
Host is w2k8 enterprise w/hyper-v, VM running SCVMM, P2V SBS2008.

Analysis:
1. The error message "The I/O operation has been aborted because of either
a thread exit or an application request (0x800703E3))" reported in SCVMM
indicates the VMM console cannot receive response P2Vagent running on this
SBS 2008 host machine.

2. If we collect debug trace from VMM side, we may found the following
00006857 312.88629150 [5520] at
Microsoft.VirtualManager.Engine.Deployment.BitDeployer.GetProgress(UInt32&
clientState)
00006858 312.88629150 [5520] *** Carmine error was:
HostAgentWSManError (2927); HR: 0x80338029
00075866 694.08050537 [728]
02D8.10DC::02/05-20:26:03.934#00:exceptions.cpp(77)[0317FBF4]:
CarmineException::CarmineException: CarmineError: 1051488, hr: 0x800703e3

3. The most possible cause of this issue is that P2VAgent temporarily
installed in host machine was crashed and cannot send response to VMM
server.

To investigate why P2Vagent is crashed or the thread unexpectedly exited,
we need analysis memory dump of P2VAgent in the host. According to this
situation, I recommend that you submit a Professional incident so the
specific support professional can follow it up with you together. The
following web site for more detail of Professional Support Options and
incident submission methods is for your reference:
http://support.microsoft.com/?LN=en-us& ... erprophone.

Meanwhile, I would try my personal efforts if you can follow steps in the
below article to collect VMM debug trace from VMM server and P2V source
server at the same time when the issue is reproduced.

I installed a UPS for the gigabit switch and SBS2k8, ran again okay. Job ran
to completion.
