networking notebook and home network

Postby kraadde » Wed Jun 03, 2009 7:35 am

my network has 2 xp and one vista machine connected via ethernet cables to a dlink wifi router. now i have one new vista notebook that i am trying desperately to get to connected to the network. btw, all pc's have mcaffee suite installed and yes, i tried to disable the firewall ....
the fact is that on my cabled pc's i can see the notebook in the network folder and i can also ping it w/o problem. when i try to open the notebook from one of my other machines, i am not able to do so and an error message appeares, but i have indeed given share rights to the notebook drives!
strange is that i have access from the notebook to the cabled machine drives, but not viceversa.

sorry for asking maybe stupid questions, but i need some quick help before pulling my last hair..

Disabling Norton may not work. Try to asdd the LAN access to the mcaffee.

Can't connecting to network ...
Then unenable the Mcaffee firewalls and was able to ping the laptop from the ... Mcaffee firewall on both computers and was still able to ping the laptop. ...

thanks blin, but sorry, that does not help. I do not have any Norton installed and the Mcafee is indeed installed for LAN access. The prove that it works is that i can open the desktop from the notebook and open all desktops from the desktops, but no otherwise.
If I create a new user on my notebook and try to logon as such, suddently i get access from my desktop...why ?

thanks for further help

I am confused about the problem. Assuming you can ping each other by host name, you may try to create the same username with the same password.
