Can't access resource over VPN

Postby blin » Wed Jan 25, 2012 11:23 am

Situation: The client setup VPN on Windows 2008 R2. They can establish the VPN, but can't access any resources.

Troubleshooting: They can't ping the VPN server by IP. IPconfig on both VPN server and client shows PPP IP is 169.254.x.x. We found they setup DHCP on the router and also use ISP DNS. Since the VN client can't get the IP from the router, it assigned 169.254.x.x IP ti itself.

Resolution: 1. Disable DHCP on the router and create DHCP and DNS on the Windows server.
2. Assign LAN IP addresses to RRAS so that the VPN client can use the same LAN IP addresses.
