Windows 7 64 bit doesn't work on Netgear VPN

Postby chicagotech » Wed Feb 15, 2012 12:38 pm

Q: I have two computers, one is XP and anothe rone is new Windows 7 64 bit. The XP access teh office netgear VPN withotu any issue, but the windows 7 doesn't work. hy?

A: Quoted from the internet:
We purchased three Netgear FVS336G VPN devices because of their SSL VPN feature, which enables a PC to VPN without having to install/configure client software in advance.

Only problem is... it doesn't work, at least not when connecting using a 64-bit operating system like Vista or Windows XP. :-(

Worse yet, Netgrear' IPSEC VPN client doesn't work with 64-bit operating systems either. We can't get the FVS336G to work with Microsoft's built-in VPN client driver, and Netgear's tech support sez there are no plans currently to support 64-bit systems. Their only recommendation is to either (1) buy third-party VPN software that might work with the FVS336G, or (2) buy a different VPN device.

Netgear's website claims to fully support Vista & XP but is missing the fine print that it only supports the 32-bit versions. Therefore, beware! If you want to support newer PCs with 64-bit operating systems (such as systems with 4GB RAM or more), then you should probably avoid the current set of Netgear VPN products.
