Unable to remote control terminal sessions

Postby guest » Wed Dec 05, 2012 10:10 am

I am currently having an issue on a new terminal server I have installed. When trying to shadow (from command line) or remote control (from terminal services manager) I am getting an "Access Denied" message and it disconnects the other user.

From the command line when using shadow {session ID} it states the following:

Your session may appear frozen while the remote control approval is being negotiated.

Please wait...

It then disconnects the terminal session. I thought it might have been because they are using multiple monitors on the HP thin clients but I have tried this from a laptop and it has the same issue. I have changed the "Set compression algorithm for RDP data" in group policy but still the same issue.

There are no errors in the event log that I can find anywhere :(

The TS is running Server 2008 Standard x64 edition.

Anyone have any suggestions?

If your server is running Server 2008 Standard SP2 (non R2), please download and install the hotfix below:
A shadowed Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services session is disconnected from a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or Windows 7 SP1

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2523307

When requesting the hotfix, please click Show hotfixes for all languages and platforms, and then select Windows Vista x64 option.

After installing the hotfix on your server and restarting, please test and see if the problem is fixed. Please reply here with your results or let us know if your server is running Server 2008 R2 instead.
