2012R2 RDS Gateway Password Reset Issue

Postby guest » Wed Nov 04, 2015 5:55 pm

We currently have discovered an issue with our RDS Gateway connection if a user's password has expired or if the user is required to change their password at next logon.

If the user's account is in one of the conditions above then when they try to connect then they just get bounced back to the credentials dialogue box and are prompted to enter their password again. There is no message that the password has expired or anything helpful.

If the user connects directly to the RDSH (over 3389) then they are shown a full desktop logon screen stating their password has expired and they are given the opportunity to reset it. Should they connect over RDWeb then they are also given the opportunity to reset an expired password as I have set PasswordChangeEnabled to 'True' in Application Settings in IIS.

I have tried all combinations of settings in the security section of the Collection but most are a backwards step. I must have something incorrectly set somewhere as I would think it was a huge weakness if Gateway users couldn't reset an expired password.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Based on my research, this is by design and there’s no fix. When a user's password expires or the Administrator ticks the option to force a password change on next logon, the user will not be able to connect through TS Gateway and change the password. Unfortunately, there is no option to change expired passwords through TS Gateway. Users can only change their passwords by using direct TS (without TS Gateway) when connected to the internal network. Sorry for the inconvenience it brings.
