RD login issue: Unknown Publisher

Postby chicagotech » Tue Sep 26, 2017 4:39 pm

We have Remote Desktop Services running on 4 Windows 2012 R2 servers for outside clients to access. All RD servers have wildcard certificate.
If we access https://rdwa01.mydomain.com/rdweb , RDP to remote4.mydomain.com directly, they work fine. If we connect to remote4.mydomain.com from https://rdwa01.mydomain.com/rdweb , we receive this warning: Unknown Publisher.

Why and how can we get ride of this warning from the server site?

To have a better understanding of the issue, please help me know the following:
•Is there certificate warning when connecting to the RD web or Remote App?
•Please specify the network topology of RD web access server, RD gateway RD Session Host server and the client computer.
•When connecting to the remote computer directly with mstsc.exe, please verify that RD Gateway is specified.
•When connecting to the remote computer directly with mstsc.exe, please verify that mstsc.exe GUI\Advanced\Warm me is selected.

Besides, please try the method “create a GPO with RDP signing settings” in the following link.

1. Is there certificate warning when connecting to the RD web or Remote App? - No certificate warning when connecting to the RD web. Not sure about RemoteApp because we don't use it.

2. Please specify the network topology of RD web access server, RD gateway RD Session Host server and the client computer. - this is standard RD Services configuration. All servers and client are in the same domain.

3. When connecting to the remote computer directly with mstsc.exe, please verify that RD Gateway is specified. - When connecting to the remote computer directly with mstsc.exe, it connects to the Host server directly without RD Gateway.
•4. When connecting to the remote computer directly with mstsc.exe, please verify that mstsc.exe GUI\Advanced\Warm me is selected. - Yes, GUI\Advanced\Warm me is selected.
•I will get back to you about the link you sent.

Besides, when doing some further research, I found the following link that stated this symptom should be caused by the difference between in how the .RDP file is built when using Remote App RD Web Access and when using Remote Desktop via RD Web Access.

When connecting to a RemoteApp, the RDP file is cerated on RD Sessio Host based on the configuration with the SSL certificate. While using Remote Desktop via RD Web Access, the RDP file is not signed. Thus there will be the unknown publisher warning.

This seems the resolution:
Besides, please try the method “create a GPO with RDP signing settings” in the following link.
