The client could not connect to the remote computer

Postby guest » Mon May 26, 2008 10:17 am

when trying to connect to computer or server through RWW, the following message would be received:

"The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the
computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are
preventing your connection. Please try connecting again later. If the problem continues to occur, contact
your administrator."

You have run CEICW and make sure "Remote Desktop" is enabled on the server. If I am off base, feel free
to let me know.

Before we go any further, I would appreciate your help in clarifying the following questions:

1. Does this issue occur when using RWW from another external workstation?
2. Does this issue occur when accessing RWW with another user account such as domain admin?
3. Can you connect to the client/server from RWW inside your domain? (Visit http://
<yourservername>/remote within the domain. You can also access https://localhost/remote to logon to
the RWW on the SBS server directly, and then try to use the remote desktop function. Could this issue be
reproduced?)

The above tests will help us narrow down the issue gradually. At the same time, let's perform the following
steps to check the rssult:

Step 1: Please re-run the CEICW, and make sure Remote Web Workplace is published:
===============
1. Click Start, click Server Management. Click To Do List and then click "Connect to the Internet". Click
Next, and go through the Internet option.
2. Select Enable firewall and click Next. Ensure Terminal Services is selected. Click Next.
3. On the Web Services Configuration page shows, make sure that "Remote Work Website" is selected.
Click Next.
4. Go through the steps to finish the wizard.

Step 2: Check if port 4125 is blocked by firewall/router
===============
Please note that we need to open port 4125 in the firewall/router. In order to allow a remote desktop
connection to a client computer through Remote Web Workplace (RWW), a component called TS Proxy is
used to forward TS requests through a firewall on TCP port 4125.

Sometimes, the port 4125 may occupied by another process. At this point, please follow the KB 886209 to
solve this issue.

Step 3: If you have Windows 2003 SP2 installed on SBS 2003 server, the RSS and offload support may
cause such issue, please disable RSS and Checksum offload settings.
===============
To disable Receive Side Scaling:
------------------
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit , and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, click DWORD Value, and then type EnableRSS .
4. Double-click EnableRSS, type 0 , and then click OK.
5. Exit Registry Editor.

To disable offloading support
------------------
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
3. In the details pane, right-click EnableTCPA, and then click Modify.
4. In the Value data box, type 0 (zero), and then click OK.
5. Exit Registry Editor.
6. Restart the computer.

One of our clients had the same issue when he tried to access SBS RWW. He followed the following troubleshooting, but could not fix it.

The client could not connect to the remote computer

Then we found he didn't open the port 4125.
