Q & A: The DNS changed automatically

Postby chicagotech » Fri Jan 05, 2007 12:53 am

Q: I have discovered a problem with several of my workstations. The user will
be working along fine and all of the sudden the Internet seems to stop
working. I have found out that the DNS Server IP that the workstation is
using has changed to 192.168.1.1 instead of our DNS Server IP Address. With
a quick ipconfig /renew everything goes back to working. I can't find any
errors in the logs that explains what is going on. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

A: We have seen similar case like this one. Make sure you have only DHCP server running. For example, if you use windows DHCP, you need to turn off the router DHCP.
