SBS2011 server will reboot automatically

Postby guest » Thu Jun 16, 2011 8:58 am

Situation: the SBS2011 server will reboot automatically after the RPC service and the RPC Endpoint Mapper service stopped on the server.

Case 1: Temporarily disable or uninstall Anti-virus program or firewall program

==========================================

Sometimes, the antivirus program and the firewall will cause the system service stop working unexpectedly and the server reboot. I met some similar cases before. Temporarily disable or uninstall Anti-virus program or firewall program is the best way to help us check if this system reboot issue is related with third party antivirus programs.

Note: If we are sure the problem is not related the third party anti-virus program or firewall program, we can enable them again after the test.

Case 2: Perform Clean Boot

=============================

In this method, we will disable all third party services and startup items on the server. The system will only load the default settings and services when running. Once all is well in the Clean Boot, the cause of the problem should be the third party programs or third party services. We may need to do the advanced Clean Boot to find out which service or program is causing the problem. Here are detailed steps:

-----------------------------------------

a. Click Start, type msconfig in the Search filed and press Enter.

b. In the System Configuration dialog box, click Selective Startup on the General tab.

c. Clear the Load Startup Items check box.

Note: The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.

d. Click the Services tab.

e. Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.

f. Click Disable All, and then click OK.

g. When you are prompted, click Restart.
