Event ID 1058: processing of Group Policy failed

Postby guest » Tue Nov 15, 2011 3:49 pm

After migrating Domain controller from 2003 to 2008, you may receive this message:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy
Date: 11/10/2011 11:55:25 PM
Event ID: 1058
Description:
The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the
file \\servername.chicagotech.net\sysvol\servername.chicagotech.net\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini
from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings
may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be
transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:
a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.
b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain
controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.
Resolution: To correct this problem, you can perform the below steps.

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. In Registry Editor, locate the following registry subkey:

a. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

3. If the WaitForNetwork entry is missing, you must add the entry. To do this, follow these steps:

a. Right-click the Winlogon subkey, click New, and then click Dword Value.

b. In the Value name box, type WaitForNetwork.

4. Right-click WaitForNetwork, and then click Modify.

5. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, in the Value Data box, type 1, and then click OK.

6. Close Registry Editor.
