WER fodler uses a lot space

Postby blin » Fri Mar 02, 2012 11:39 am

Situation: The client has a SQL 2005 running on Windows 2008. The ‘WER’ Report Queue Folder uses over 37GB spaces.

Case 1: You can clear that through the “Disk Cleanup” (right click the drive icon in Explorer and select “Properties” and then “Tools”).

Case 2: WER can be turned off in the “Problem Reports and Solutions” applet in Control Panel.

Case 3: Unfortunately Disk Cleanup is not installed by default on Windows Server 2008; an install requires a reboot, something I didn’t want to do. So I fired up a Command Prompt window:

cd \ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue
del /s *.tmp.hdmp
del /s *.tmp.mdmp

Case 4: Found how to clear these.

Control Panel
System and Security
Action Center
(left panel) View archived message

This will list all of these reports and give you the options of clearing them one at a time, or a button to Clear All.
