Windows 2003 as VM on VMware doesn't sync the time

Windows 2003 doesn't sync the time

We have a standalone Windows 2003 R2 running a VM on Vmware server. The time is always slow. We have setup time.nist.gov in internet time, but it doesn’t sync. I also setup w32time to NTP in registry. But that doesn’t do anything until I update the time manually. Any ideas how to fix it?

Firstly, we suggest you disable VMWare time synchronization via this article:

Then, check the following aspects:

1. Check if the firewall has blocked the port UDP 123.

Note: this UDP port is used to NTP time synchronization.

2. Check if there are other 3rd party time service installed on the server

3. Check if we have disabled the VMtime sync option:

open registry editor, locate: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\VMICTimeProvider

set the value of Key "Enabled" to 0.

Then, restart W32time service, run the following command to see the sync result:

w32tm /resync

w32tm /monitor
