Remove the Windows Installer Virus from XP

Postby blin » Fri Aug 10, 2012 12:08 pm

A Windows installer virus is one that periodically pops up a "Preparing to install" message" on your computer for no obvious reason. For some users this occurs when they try to start their computer, for some it appears when they try to open a particular file or folder, and for some it happens whenever they click anything. Because this virus so severely impacts Windows XP functionality, you have to run a repair from your original installation CD to remove it.

Resolution: 1 Insert your Windows XP installation CD into your computer's disc drive.

2 Turn on your PC. Your computer will automatically boot from the disc, bypassing the installer virus.

3 Press "R" to begin a scan. The XP CD will compare your operating system data to the data on the disc to locate the virus.

4 Click "Repair" when prompted to fix any virus(es) the disc detects. This will not erase any of your saved data.
