CHKDSK: Cannot lock current drive

Postby blin » Tue Jun 21, 2016 10:02 am

Situation: When Run CHKDSK /F, you may receive this message:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Resolution: The step to take is to answer with Yes and then reboot your system. CHKDSK will run before Windows starts so that it can repair the drive before Windows starts using it.
