Vista: Unzipping ZIP files containing .EXE's

Postby guest » Tue Jan 29, 2008 10:31 pm

- I cannot find how to tell my Vista x64 Business Edition not to deny
unzipping zips with executable content. Changing the attachment handling
option in Windows Mail does *not* have an effect. Vista tells me that, for
security reasons, access to the zipped .exe (or other executable content)
would be denied.

Where can we configure that behaviour please?

- you may want to add the site where the file is downloaded from to the trusted site list of Internet Explorer and check if the issue can be resolved.

1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
3. Click the Security tab, and then click Trusted Sites.
4. Click Sites, and then click to clear the require server verification
(https:) for all sites in this zone check box.
5. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type the address of the
website. And click OK.

resetting the internet zone to its default settings enabled me to unzip the
package (yes, I use just the plain Vista zip tool). I had tweaked the
internet zone to set security higher than default (for example, allowing
absolutely no ActiveX). Now I will compare both states and hopefully find
the one setting responsible for this behaviour. Thank you for your valuable
tipps.
