Download QuickBooks Connection Diagnostic Tool
Estimated time: 20 minutes

Note: When downloading the tool, start with the server first and then proceed to each workstation.

1.Go to QuickBooks Connection Diagnostic Tool web page.
2.To download the tool, enter your email address and select I agree to the Terms and Conditions.
3.Follow the wizard to install and use the tool.
Note: Instructions for using the tool can be found on the How to Use the Tool tab.

If you see File Open successful (all Advanced statuses have green checkmarks,) your network connection is OK, and you should be able to open the file.

c.If QuickBooks is installed, make sure that hosting mode is set to local files only

1.Open QuickBooks.
2.Press F2 to open the Product Information window.
3.Check that in Local Server Information area in the lower left corner, Hosting is set to local files only.
4.If it is not (off appears instead), choose File > Utilities > Host Multi-user Access. QuickBooks closes the company file and reopens it.
5.Press F2 to open the Product Information window again and verify that Hosting is now set to local files only.

e.Delete and re-create the .nd file

You need to scan the folder where the company file is stored to create the Network Descriptor (nd) file. The *.nd file stores information about the computer that is hosting the file.

1.Click the Windows Start button and choose :
Windows 7 or Vista: All Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks Database Server Manager
Windows XP: All Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks Database Server Manager
2.In the QuickBooks Database Server Manager window, click Add Folder and find the folders storing the company files.
3.When all folders are added, click Scan.
4.The data files appear under QuickBooks company files found. Click Close.
5.Browse to the folders containing the company files and make sure the file <filename>.qbw.nd was created for each company data file.
Note: If you don't see the QuickBooks Database Server Manager in the Programs list, you might have to uninstall QuickBooks and reinstall selecting the second option: I'll be using QuickBooks on this computer, AND I'll be storing our company file here so it can be shared over our network.

Make sure hosting is off on workstation

1.Open QuickBooks and go to File > Utilities.
2.If you see Host Multi-User Access on the list, this computer is not hosting the company file and you can go to the next computer.
3.If you see Stop Hosting Multi-User Access, select that option.
a.Click Yes to confirm.
b.In the Company File Must Be Closed window, click Yes to continue and go to the next computer.

If you have multiple computers using the same software, please make sure all of them are in the same version.
