Startup Error: Data Source name not found

Situation: when attemptin to login Patron Edge, you may receive this Startup Error: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source name not found and no default driver specified Main Startup Step: CBBStartupSeq.Startup Start Sequence Step: DetermineUserNameandPassword

Resolution: Complete the following steps in the order listed until the issue is resolved:

If this is occurring at the workstations, then complete these steps:
1.Rename PEUpdate.ini file, located by default in C:\Program Files\Blackbaud\Patron Edge\
2.Verify the Key Service is started: a.Go to Start>Run
b.Type in services.msc
c.Find the service named Key Service <Database Name>
d.Make sure the status column says Started
e.If not, right click the service and select Start

3.Ensure that the Windows account that the Key Service is running under has the following rights: a.Db_owner role for your Patron Edge database
b.Logon as a service rights

4.Verify the Authentication mode of the SQL Server instance, and ensure that the users running The Patron Edge have the necessary rights. See Knowledgebase Solution BB537224
5.On the client workstation verify the PEKeyServiceURL and Server keys are set to the correct value a.Edit the registry
b.Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blackbaud\PEINI\DataAccess\DB_Definitions\DB_Def_1
c.Review the PEKeyServiceURL and Server keys, if they are correct go to step 6, if they are incorrect go to step d
d.Right click PEKeyServiceURL and select Modify
e.Enter the correct server and listening port for the key service
f.Click OK
g.Right click Server and select Modify
h.Enter the Server name where the key service is running
i.Click OK
j.Exit the registry
k.Log into The Patron Edge

6.Launch the Blackbaud Management Console a.Check for Active Users logged into The Patron Edge database and have them log out
b.Detach The Patron Edge database. Prior to detaching, review What steps should be taken when detaching a Patron Edge database
c.Reattach The Patron Edge database

7.Ensure that users have the required Windows rights

If this is occurring at the server, then complete these steps:
1.Check for active users logged into The Patron Edge database and have them log out
2.Go to Start, Run, type services.msc, and click ok
3.Start SQL Server service that your Patron Edge database is attached to
4.Attempt to log in again

in our case, we just reboot the REPE server.
