How do I rotate video?

Postby guest » Sun Jan 01, 2012 12:05 pm

Q: I used my iPad to take some video. However, it is upside down. How do I rotate video?

A: You may have many options.
1. Try iMovie
2. Aperture IS a photo management application.
3. Try Final Cut Pro, or Premiere Pro CS5.5 (along with After Effects CS5.5).
4. You can do this using Quicktime Pro 7:
5. You can also do this using TransformMovie, available here:
6. MPEG Streamclip can rotate video while maintaining the aspect ratio as well as the interlacing when converting to DV, which is what iMovie prefers as an input:

I know that you can rotate a video clip using iMovie09 as I was doing it last night on a video I was working on. If I recall correctly:

- select clip you want to rotate in events

- click crop or press c

- then use the circle with an arrow.

The video rotates.

I was just looking at this forum as I was wondering if Quicktime 7 can rotate videos on the fly without having to drag them into iMovie?

To use QT Pro, please follow these steps;

Open MOV file in QT Pro (QT 7.6.6)
Window -> Show Movie Properties
select "Video Track"
select "Visual Settings" from lower window
check "Preserve Aspect Ratio"
Click on appropriate rotation icon (MOV rotates!)
Click back on the open MOV in Player Window
FILE -> Save
