User not able to enter meetings from mac using Office 2011

Postby guest » Sat May 26, 2012 6:35 pm

I am sure you have all heard this before. I am not an Apple guy. I have two clients who have Macs so I am forced to make these computers work on our domain. One of the Mac users cannot set up meetings in the public calendar. The error message is "you must use the primary calendar," and will not let him create a meeting or appointment. He can see the public folders as well as appointments and meetings entered by someone else. The Mac has been set up on Active Directory and is connected to the domain. He has access to the user shares and the public folders. He is also receiving Exchange e-mail. The only thing that is not working is the ability to enter information in public folders.

Server system - SBS 2008R2 with Exchange 2010

Apple MacBook Air OS 10.6

Any help will be greatly apprecated

I now have the full error message from the user.

“This meeting invitation cannot be sent because it is in a public folder. To send a meeting invitation, you must create the event in the primary Exchange calendar”.

I will answer your questions as best I can.

1. There are two Mac users, only this one reported having the problem.

2. User is not available to use other Mac

3. Yes this user also has a Windows 7 computer that is working fine.

Next group of questions.

1. Will try to access calendar properties as soon as possible, however all user have editor rights.

There are two differences in the Macs. The one that is working has 10.4. The one not working is 10.6. Also the one that is working has .local in the directory services.

I have been doing more research on the Office 2011 for Mac issue. It seems Microsoft is moving away from public folders in Exchange. I was aware of this, but I thought it was years away. This is not the case for the Mac. Office 2011 for Mac does not support editing public folders. You can view the folders only. Hope this saves some time for anyone who come across this issue.
