Delete photos from Device ONLY

Postby chicagotech » Mon Jul 24, 2017 12:43 pm

If you delete a photo from the main window by default it will delete from BOTH your device/mobile/tablet AND your Google Photo cloud (to keep them 'in sync')

But you may just need to free up some storage on your device/mobile/tablet:

To delete photos from Device ONLY use the new button:
From the Google Photos App/Settings/Free up Device Storage

The "Delete Device Copy" message (small banner) on Google Photos app on iPhone does not appear on my iPhone 6 Plus on iOS 8.3 (after touching & holding a photo for long enough time). I did confirm my photos are syncing & are backed up to photos.google.com, & I'm sure I took some of those photos on my current phone.

You mention the photos can also be deleted on the device only using "the Gallery" (without deleting these photos in Photos.Google.com, assuming they're backed up). I'm unsure what you're referring to as the "Gallery". Do you mean the "Photos" app on iPhone? If so, only photos in my iPhone's native photos app display there.
