Losing Networked Printer in Vista

Postby chicagotech » Mon Apr 30, 2007 8:54 pm

Hi,

I'm not sure what you meant by everything worked fine, and what went wrong,
so just to share my own experience of PhotoSmart 2610 with Vista Ultimate:

After installed the latest all-in-one software for Vista from HP, I couldn't
access to the scan function - and only the scan function while fax, print,
and copy all worked fine.

It took my 3 days and a lucky guess to find out that it is because the
inbuilt firewall is turned OFF. Yes, - OFF.

I need to turn on Vista's firewall and added each and every all-in-one's
software into allowed list. After that, I can access the scan function
without problem.

What a deal? No is No, but when you said No to Vista, it has its own mind.

Hope this helps.

I am not sure about Home Basic though.

Yes, it is the Vista driver that I obtained straight from HP. What happens is
that I installed the driver, test bot the printer and the scanner (it's an
All-In-One) and everything. I believe that after the customer shuts down the
computer and restarts, everything disappears (both printer and scanner). The
printer is a stand-alone network printer and I connected to it using the
setup HP Software. Usually this an easy setup. I have the printer setup to
obtain its IP through DHCP. Should I hardcode an IP address into the printer?

You may want to install the printer as local port and then re-map it to the network printer. This link may help,

Hi there guys. Need your help! I have a PC desktop with XP SP2 and a
lappie with Vista Ultimate, all part of my domestic WiFi LAN. I also
have a printer - HP Deskjet 930C Series - installed with the desktop PC.
The LAN is OK, and the lappie can "see" the desktop allright, although
Vista doesn't let it to be seen so easily! Problem started when I tried
to install the printer via network. I had XP installed in an older
laptop and everything was OK. All I had to do was to find the printer,
double click it, and when asked if I wanted to install it, XP did it
piece of cake. Now with Vista in the lappie, after being asked if I want
to install it, I receive a message "the printing monitor is not
recognized' and it does not install!!! I suppose it's because the
drivers in the desktop are for XP and Vista doesn't like them. I have
also installed the printer physically in the notebook, but was not
successful.

Does anybody have a clue on how I should do it? Has any of you had a
similar problem? How can I make my printer part of the whole WLAN,
specially in Vista? Give me a hand, please, please!!

If I can't get it to work, I'll have to go back to the good ol' XP
through clean install, and I have just finished configuring Vista to
work smoothly!
