Solved: Vista the internet connection problem

Postby chicagotech » Thu May 03, 2007 10:38 am

Sure enough worked like a charm. I've been fighting that for over 2 months
restarting 15-20 times a day to reconnect.

Thank you for the information.

If you've been experiencing internet dropping, hanging, ect. on Vista, you're
not alone. I was ready to throw the thing in the trash. I finally fixed it by
going to the Network and Sharing center, click the View Status on the
connection, click Properties and then uncheck the QoS Packet Scheduler, the
Internet Protocol Version 6, and both Link Layer Topology choices. Then click
OK, restart and enjoy your surfing! Hope this helps. Let me know.

I've been having a similar problem with Vista-Ultimate. My internet connection is dropping at times duing the day and I have to reset the cable modem to reacquire my connection.

I have 2 PCs connected via cable modem and wired router

I have setup a static IP and that has seemed to work well for several weeks but now I'm experiencing my connection dropping at various times during a day.

Just prior to this post I've
uncheck the QoS Packet Scheduler, the
Internet Protocol Version 6, and both Link Layer Topology choices.

I'll monitor this over the next couple of days to see how it does but I have some basic questions that I hope someone can provide some information...

Why are these workarounds needed...is it because my router is old (LinksysBEFSR41 v2 -- last available firmware update is mid 2004)?

If I buy a new router, will this solve the issue I'm experiencing or will I still need the workarounds?

Thanks for any comments on this issue. :)

Yes, some routers or the DHCP servers don't compatible with Vista. I will wait for a new firmware.

my dell e1405 with vista loses browsing every three hours. I can still get internet data thru stock apps and radio apps. I can't use safe mode with networking from startup. I have tried your fix of removing ipv6, qos packet, and link layer but didn't help.
Dell tech can't help. I have tried many solutions but nothing has helped yet. I have bypassed the router straight to the cable modem but doesnt help. the computer usually hangs at shutdown as well. I have no problem whatsoever with my other computer on xp.

I was referred here by microsoft vista community networking.

can you or anyone help?
thanks

additional info

Postby mudpuppy » Wed Jul 11, 2007 12:16 pm

when problem occurs, if I click on diagnose and repair connection, it says it cannot communicate with microsoft, etc. But at the same time, if I click on the wired and wireless connections individually and click on diagnose, they both say connection is working fine.

What does that mean?

connectivity problem

Postby mudpuppy » Wed Jul 11, 2007 6:15 pm

one of the attempted solutions was to set my tcp/ip to address 4221, and it is still set there. Does that answer your question?
if not, then how do I ping 4221?

microsoft networking troubleshooting suggests a possible solution of reinstalling the 'winsock protocol'. Could that help?

thanks

No, it is not setup 4221. It is ping 4.2.2.1. This could be the winsock issue. Try that. Please post back with the result.

If you can ping IP but not browse, it could be the DNS issue. can you ping yahoo.com? Or this link may help,

ie?

Postby mudpuppy » Thu Jul 12, 2007 12:49 pm

I'll try pinging yahoo, but I can't browse with firefox when the problem occurs, so

if it's an ie issue, then wouldn't I be able to browse with firefox when I can't browse with ie?

should I try winsockfix? does it work with vista?

or should I try manual ip address first? where do I get that?

If you can ping yahoo but browse it, I would do winsockfix or scan any spyware.
