Windows 7 network password issue

Postby guest » Mon Oct 24, 2011 2:52 pm

When, in Windows 7, I try to access another computer on my tiny network from left side of the 'Computer' screen, I am asked for a password. I haven't assigned any password--my little network (through a router) doesn't need password security. How do I get rid of all this request for passwords that I never had on other computers with other OSs?

Login to Network without password

Windows XP does not allow network users to access without password
To allow network users to access without password
1-click Start > Run > and type gpedit.msc to run Group Policy
2- Go to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options
3- In right panel, right click “Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only” and select properties and select Disable

Start with removing File sharing
Control panel > Network connections > Right click on your network card > Properties > Select File sharing ..., then click on Uninstall (or remove)
On the same window, click on Install > Service > File sharing... and validate all the windows

Always, on the control panel, double click on Folder options > View. Make sure that the last case "Simple file sharing" is on.
Right click on a folder > Properties > Sharing, and activate the sharing for all folders.

Please try to enable the following security policies to check the result:

1. Enter “gpedit.msc” in the Start Search box.

2. Open “Computer Configuration”/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Settings.

3. In the right pane, enable the following policies:

· Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translation

· Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users

Meanwhile, just for test, check the NTML settings:

Click the start button and type secpol.msc in the search function.

Browse to "Local Policies" -> "Security Options". Now look for the entry "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" and open it. Click on the dropdown menu and select "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". Apply the settings.
