How can I move the Windows XP Mode VHD to another drive

The base vhd, in programfiles cannot be moved or renamed, if done, xp mode will stop booting.

To move the files under c, first boot xp mode, instead of saving the virtual machine., shut it down. (change the close settings to prompt the user for close action). Close the virtual machine., and choose shutdown. This will remove the vsv file. Do not delete the .vsv file, as it contains data if you have not saved inside the virtual machine.

Now, move the 'C:\Users\CHRIS.domainname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Mode.vhd ' to a desired location.

Open xp mode settings, go to hard disk 1 setting, and repoint the hard disk to the new location of the vhd. You should now be able to boot off the virtual machine.

It is STILL dropping files and other junk in and around the C drive when I TOLD IT to use the D drive.

Would turning off, ripping out by the roots or whatever it takes, the "integration features" make it behave like Virtual PC 2007, yet still retain the ability to connect USB devices to the vm? That would be eminently satisfactory. If not, will try uninstalling and seeing if Sun's Virtual Box will work. With everything installed on Vista Ultimate I had 12 to 6 gig free on C for years. Now that I did a clean install of Win7 I hope to keep about 20gig free on C by using D as much as possible. Microsoft...I think...you BLEW IT! Vista and Virtual PC 2007 worked fine for 3+ years then you change the way the virtual pc works so that it drops stuff all over you drive that only "belongs" on the virtual drive? Hah!
