Event ID 13042 appers in SBS 2008

Postby guest » Tue May 01, 2012 10:34 pm

The Event ID 13042 suddenly appears every 6 hours on our server, SBS 2008. No changes were made to WSUS or IIS directly before issue occured. We have been unsuccessful in clearing the error after restarting the default website. Please advise.

From the description, I understand that you keep getting event ID 13042 every 6 hours on SBS 2008. After restarting the default website, the error ID still occurs.

Please correct me if I have any misunderstanding.

Analysis:

===========

It seems you have tried the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2000598 suggestions. You should be assured that Anonymous authentication has enabled and "Require SSL" should be unchecked.

This event ID indicating that Self-update is not working. Please check if the client can update successfully.

Meanwhile, you may try the following steps and check the Windows SharePoint Services on the default Web site in IIS, configure it to coexist with Self-update

1.Grant Anonymous access (Anonymous Auth) to the Default Web site, ClientWebService and Selfupdate v-roots in IIS.

2.Exclude specific requests from being intercepted by the Windows SharePoint Services ISAPI DLL by doing the following:

a. Open the Windows SharePoint Services Central Administration Site (click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Sharepoint Central Administration).

b. Click Virtual Server Configuration, and then click Configure Virtual Server Settings.

c. Click Default Web Site.

d. Click Virtual Server Management, and then click Define managed paths.

e. In the Add a new path box, set the type to Excluded Path. Under Path, type the following:

/iuident.cab

/clientwebservice

/Selfupdate

After checking the MPS report, there are still some event ID 13042. Firstly, please confirm that you have successfully tried the steps on initial reply.

Please check if the default web site is started because Default web site stopped can trigger the event ID 13042.

Please open IIS manager, expand server name, check default web site under Sites. If it is stopped, please be assured that it is running.

Please capture a screenshot for the default web site status.

Meanwhile, the event ID 13042 can be triggered by the default web site was not started. However, if Windows Server Update Services is not functional, you may try the following steps to repair the WSUS components. If it still cannot get update, please create a new thread.
