Virtual server or physical server

Postby guest » Wed May 18, 2016 10:10 am

Small company has only one Dell PowerEdge server with 16GB RAM. They would like to have two servers, windows 2012 R2 DC and Filemaker server.

1. Run both DC and FileMaker on the same server.

2. Create two VMs, one will run DC and another one will run FileMaker.

3. DC on the physical server and FileMaker on VM.

Which one option do you prefer?

# 2. It is always recommended to run Hyper-V as the only role on the physical server and then create the virtual machines for the operating system instances you want. It is never recommended to run anything besides Directory Services on a domain controller.

Running Domain Controllers in Hyper-V:

The other two plans could only be used for test purpose.
