Vista receives limited connectivity because of NIC speed

Postby chicagotech » Mon Dec 03, 2007 9:27 am

OMG, changing the NIC works like a charm!!!!
Just to post a follow up, change the NIC speed would work
Go to contgrol panel, system, device manager, your network card, properties,
advance tab, link speed, change from auto detect to 100 or 10 Mbps/ half!
works for me!

thanks Rob, your great man!

My wife is having issues with her Vista laptop while traveling. It's about 50/50 in the hotels on wireless networks. Is the fix above something to try? She doesn't have any problems with wired connections, but frequently gets the 'limited or no connectivity' message. I don't know if it's NIC or IP related and want to be able to give her advice while talking on the phone.

She's got a Gateway MT3421 and hasn't messed with settings. I don't quite understand the "100 or 10 Mbps/ half!" quote. I'm running an Acer with XP SP2 and don't have a "link speed" section to compare to.

Also, I've read on this forum about changing the ad-hoc operational mode to "Mixed b/g," is that worth trying?

If it is wireless, it may be the incompatible issue and mode issue. If the mixed mode doesn't work, try to disable theIPv6.

I have been working on the Limited connectivity issue with a Visa Laptop wireless home internet connection. The laptop would connect to the internet with a network cabel, but not through the wireless connection. The problem is the laptop was taken on vacation. Someone in Miami messed with the settings to get it running at the hotel and ever since I came home it hasn't been working. Only the hotel I have been staying in works. After days of messing around with the issue I went "old style" by going into Device Manager and deleting the NIC and wireless drivers. It asked me if I want to delete the drivers off the computer, I said No. I then Re-booted the computer. When Windows booted back up, it detected new hardware, searched for drivers, installed them, and IT WORKED!!!! Now both wireless network cable internet works just fine on my Vista laptop.
