Fixed: Failed test KnowsOfRoleHolders with error 1722

Postby guest » Mon Nov 03, 2008 2:14 pm

Q: We are installing two Windows 2008 DCs replacing current windows 2000 DCs. So far so good. For a test, I have disabled two windows 2000 DCs and then run dcdiag on both windows 2008 DCs. I receive the following error. Is this normal and can I remove windows 2000 DC (DATA is one of windows 2000 DCs) from the domain?

Starting test: KnowsOfRoleHolders
[DATA] DsBindWithSpnEx() failed with error 1722,
The RPC server is unavailable..
Warning: DATA is the Schema Owner, but is not responding to DS RPC
Bind.
Ldap search capabality attribute search failed on server DATA,
return value = 81
Warning: DATA is the Schema Owner, but is not responding to LDAP
Bind.
......................... 2008DC1 failed test KnowsOfRoleHolders

A: The error message indicates that the 2008 DC failed to test the current
Schema Master FSMO role. Possible cause is that one of the disabled 2000
DCs is the Schema Master in the AD forest.

Before removing a DC from the domain, we need to transfer all roles, such
as Schema Master, on this DC to another one.

You can follow this article to transfer Schema Master: How to transfer FSMO in Windows 2008 DC
