Logon slow or access network slow

This is good question. I would keep "Always wait for the network at computer startup and login" is disabled and work on the slow logon. Do you have any issues with DNS? Or do you receive any errors if using nslookup command?

We run Win2K3 SP2 with about 300 XP SP2 clients. When "Always wait for the
network at computer startup and login" is disabled. People complain that
Outlook, their redirected My Documents etc... aren't available until the
network starts( network icon by the clock). HOWEVER!!! If I enable the above
setting people complain that it takes up to two minutes to log on while the
computer is "applying computer setting...applying user settings...") etc...
Is there a compromise or an alternative to resolve this? It would seem that
this should be workable.
