how to restrict certain roaming profiles only to WinNT?

Postby Whuazzup » Sat Jan 20, 2007 7:38 pm

Hello. I need some help with user accounts..
In a network with roaming user profiles which has both Windows NT 4.0 clients and Windows XP clients, i want to give users two separate user accounts: one for accessing the Windows NT machines, and one for accessing Windows XP machines.
For example for a user John Doe, he will have a username jdoeNT for accessing NTs and jdoeXP for accessing XPs.
My question is how do i practically prevent John Doe from accessing Windows NT machines with his jdoeXP account. Likewise, how do i prevent him from accessing Windows XP machines with his jdoeNT account? Is there any group policy or registry setting to enforce this?
Please help...

I am not sure I undersand the issue. It seems to me that you should create two roaming files.

Actually yes, i have to create 2 roaming profiles, e.g, one that john doe will use on Windows Xp and one that he will use on Windows NT. Now how can i make sure that John Doe does NOT use his Windows Xp profile on a Windows NT machine? How can i enforce this? I want to do this so as to eliminate problems that may arise from roaming between different OS's.
Thanks in advance.

OK, I think I understand the problem now. Assuming he will use johnxp for logon xp and jognnt for nt. You don't want him to use johnxp to logon nt machine. In this case, you can restrict each logon id to specified computer. To do that, Open ADUC>Users, right-click on the user and select properties>Account, click Lon on To. Check The following computer.
