Vista runs slow in SBS network

Postby guest » Wed Nov 07, 2007 12:56 pm

Q: The company I work at runs a Windows Server 2003 SBS edition. Everything was
working great, my workstations are a mix of XP Pro and Vista Business. I
have replaced the SBS server with a new one and a new domain name. Ever
since the new server was put in place the Vista machines run extremly slow
when access network drives on any server. All the XP PC's are having no
issues at all. Any idea what this could be? I no that it's nothing to do
with the server cause all the XP PC's are fine. All I have no AV on the
Vista machines so I no that not it and I have disabled the av on the server.

A: Before taking the following troubleshooting steps, please ensure that
the latest network adapter driver supplied by manufacturer has been
installed on the Vista machine.

Step One
---------------------------------
Maybe turning off auto-tuning on the Vista client may help. Please run the
following commands:

1. Click Start, type: "CMD" (without quotation) in the Start Search bar
2. Right click Command Prompt in the search list and click Run as
Administrator
3. Type the following command and press Enter:

netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled and reboot

Step Two

NOTE: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall Windows. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems
resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use
Registry Editor at your own risk.

Registry path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System

Value name: CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo
Value type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 1

Step Three
---------------------------------
If the problem persists, please test the issue in Safe Mode with Network to
see if the issue still occurs in this mode.
