How do you join SBS domain over Internet

Postby guest » Thu Nov 30, 2006 4:12 pm

We have tried to use “Connect my computer to the domain” offered on the Remote Web Workplace, but that doesn’t work. Do we have another option to join SBS domain over Internet?

Yes, you can join the SBS domain over VPN.

1. Setup VPN on SBS and VPN client on remote computer (make sure you enable this connection for ‘All users’). Refer to this link: How to setup VPN - http://www.howtonetworking.com/Windows/vpnsetup.htm.
2. After establishing the VPN, right click My Computer, select Properties>Network Identification to change the domain name.
3. Please don’t reboot the SBS before you have added the domain user to the local Administrators Group of the workstation.
4. Go to Control Panel, Users and Groups to add the domain user who will use this computer to local administrators.
5. After reboot, fill in the name of the domain user, password and make sure the SBS-domain is selected in the domain field. Check the ‘use dialup connection’-box.
