Exchange 2007 SP1: this role cannot be installed

Windows 2003 SP2, Exchange 2007 RTM with Rollup 5, HT, CAS, MB and UM roles
and Forefront for Exchange SP1. Forefront disabled.
During upgrade - HT and CA upgraded fine, one step further setup said:
This role cannot be installed because the following roles are not current:
Mailbox Role

What is the best solution?

this might be caused by Hub Transport role and
Mailbox role running both running during upgrade. If so, please remove
Transport role, then

delete the registry keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\v8.0\HubTransportRole and
delete the WaterMark from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\v8.0\MailboxRole. Finally
start the
upgrade again

Well, when I posted it it was Friday morning. Nevertheless I removed the

I uninstalled UM role.
Upgrade went fine.
But.... I've tried to install UM Role again and it failed:
[ERROR] Opening package
'C:\Install\ExSP1\Setup\ServerRoles\UnifiedMessaging\es.MSI' failed. Another
version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version
cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this
product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel. Error code is 1638.
But there is no Exchange Speech Server in Add/Remove Programs:(
