One or more Active Directory Connectors have been found

Postby guest » Tue Jan 15, 2008 6:27 pm

Situation: you receive the following error "One or more Active Directory Connectors have been found. Please remove all Active Directory Connectors before installing Exchange 2007 Server" when
installing Exchange 2007. Is this correct?

Based on my research, similar issues may occur if the current Exchange
2000/2003 Organization has not been cleanly changed to the Native mode and
hence remnants of ADC still exist. The readiness checks of Exchange 2007
detects these remnants and gives the error.

At this time, I would suggest that we check Active Directory Sites and
Services to check the ADC.

1. On your Exchange 2000 server, please open Active Directory Sites and
Services.
2. Expand Sites->Default-first-site-name->Servers-> <Exchange server's
name> ->Exchange Settings.
Do you find ADC on the right pane?

If ADC exists in the Exchange Settings, while ADC service doesn't exist on
the Exchange 2000 server, I would suggest that we try the following steps
to deal with the issue. We have to manually delete Exchange Settings
container underneath Exchange 2000 server in AD sites and services.

1. Please take system state backup of any GC.
2. Delete Exchange Settings container underneath the Exchange 2000 server
using AD sites and services.
3. Force AD replication.
4. Try installing Exchange 2007 server again.
What is the result?

If you find ADC is under the non-existent DCs, please use the ntdsutil to
check these orphaned objects in the AD database. Generally speaking, we can
delete these orphaned domain controller objects in the ADSS directly.
However, before we delete these objects, we'd better try the following
steps:

1. Make a fully backup for the current AD database before we delete these
objects

2. To ensure these orphaned domain controller objects have been removed
from the AD database completely, please do a metadata cleanup. To do so,
follow the KB article below:

How to remove data in Active Directory after an unsuccessful domain
controller demotion
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=216498

If these orphaned domain controllers objects are not listed during the
metadata cleanup process, we can delete these objects in the ADSS and ADUC
directly.

3. After that, we can perform a force replication on the domain controller
where you delete these objects. To do so, follow the steps below:

3.1. In Administrative Tools, start Active Directory Sites and Services.
3.2. Expand Sites. There should be at least one site labeled
"default-first-site-name" (or others if they have been manually
configured).
3.3. Expand default-first-site-name, expand Servers, and then expand
Computer.
3.4. Expand NTDS Settings. One or more objects are listed in the right
pane. One of those objects is a link to the domain controller you want. To
see the "friendly" name, right-click an entry and view the name. One of the
objects points to the domain controller you want. Right-click that entry,
and then click Replicate Now. The replication is performed immediately.
