Cases: Vista networking

Postby chicagotech » Fri Feb 16, 2007 9:50 pm

Case 1: From PC A, you can see the PC B, but when clicking on B, Connect to logon screen shows up.

Solution: Create the same username of PC A on B.

Case 2: Can see some of networking computers but not all.

Solution: 1) Make sure all computers are enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

2) No firewall or security software blocks sharing.

3) Make sure all are enabled File sharing.

Case 3: Vista A lists all shared computers under Network, but not Vista B.

Solution: Turn on Network discovering.

Case 4: 1) If using net use receives "System error 53 has occurred" and "The network path was not found".
2) If browsing in Vista network, receive Network error: error code 0x80070035 - The network path was not found.

Solution: 1) Make sure you have shared some files or/and folders.
2) Make sure you have enabled both File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Network and Client for Microsoft Networks.
3) Make sure no firewall or security software blocks the sharing.

Note: the simple solution is enable Public folders sharing.

I have three computers on a LAN:

Vista Home Prem
XP Pro
XP Home

All computers show up in the network maps and all computers connect and
share fine with the exception of the Vista computer to the XP Pro computer.
Vista sees the XP Pro but can't connect. Error message 0x80070035-Windows
cannot access \\43tXXX- The network path was not found. The XP Pro,
however, connects and shares fine to the Vista.

All computers are on the same network name, all have manually assigned IPs,
the XPs have the LLTD patch installed, all connect to the internet through
the same router, all are setup for sharing. What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance.

Update...just confirmed I cannot "see" the XP Pro computer from the XP Home computer.
Update again...I just ran the Network Setup Wizard on the XP Pro computer and ALL seems well. All connect and act happy. Thanks for all assistance.
