A: In answer to your question, there are two types of network interface: the
physical adapter and the virtual adapter, such as remote access. NdisWanIp
stands for the virtual adapter.

Sorry for giving the wrong information.

The NdisWanIp is the WAN Miniport (IP) sub device attached the physical
network adapter. This type of components, such as WAN Miniport (IP), WAN
Miniport (L2TP) is mainly designed to work for VPN connections.

When we move the Device\NdisWanIP to the top in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Linkage, it just
put the Remote VPN connection to the priority for connection as well as DNS
resolution.

- But you didn't answer my question. How do I know which one is the NdisWanIp
and should be moved to the top?

The device GUIDs you listed are all physical network adapters.

The physical network adapters information can be found under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4D36E972-E325-1
1CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

For WAN miniport (IP) (NdisWanIP), this is a virtual port attached to the
physical network adapter. It is listed as Device\NdisWanIP under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Linkage.

You can find this virtual port by following the steps below.

1. Click Start > Run, devmgnt.msc and press Enter.
2. In the Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
3. Expand the Network Adapter, and the WAN miniport (IP) is listed here.
