Internet Explorer cannot display WSS or SharePoint

Postby chicagotech » Sun May 04, 2008 10:59 am

q: I installed WSS v3 on SBS 2003. In the SharePoint server I can access the SharePoint site no problem. From other computers in the network, the SharePoint will display logon screen when accessing it. When I use administrator or domainname\administrator to logon, it always displays this error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I can access RWW without problem. How do you fix it?

A: this issue may occur if Alternate Access Mappings
has not been added yet. To resolve this issue, please try the following

1. On the SBS Server, browse SharePoint 3.0 Central Administrator page.
2. On the Operations tab, under global configuration, click Alternate
access mappings.
3. Click Edit Public URLs. Select the Alternate Access Mapping Collection
to default web application.
4. Add the Internet URLs to <http>, click OK.
5. After that, at the command line, type "iisreset" and test if you can
access website with external website.
