Hello Jim,

Thank you for posting here.

From your post, I understand that you want to use a different domain name
or IP address to connect the remote SBS server. If I am off base, please
feel free to let me know.

Based on my research, the "connect to small business server" shortcut is
created by Internet Connection Manager which you download from your SBS
server. There is no place to change the SBS server's address from client.
However, you can go to SBS server side, and change the configuration by
Remote Access Wizard in To Do List.

1. Open System Management console, select To Do List node.

2. In right pane, click Configure Remote Access.

3. Go through Remote Access Wizard, click Next, then tick VPN access at
Remote Access Method step, click Next.

4. In the VPN Server Name step, you can change the Server name box from
www.domain.local to www.domain.com, click Next and Finish the wizard.

After steps above, the configuration of SBS server is correct.

Then you can go to client side, use RWW to connect to SBS server and
download Connection Manager. Please save the sbspackage.exe file in client
computer and double-click it to run. After this file run the °connect to
small business server" will have correct SBS domain name and you can use it
to connect your SBS server.

Hope info above helps. Please let me know if there is any unclear.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
